This guy could have killed people on the beach due to being drunk and in a state of dire arrogance, but he is freed under bail even before spending time in a police cell I would presume. The police did not have any grounds to object? Did they not find that such a person might try to influence witnesses and public officers?

Recently I read an article where a normal citizen got some problems with a policeman on the road because of his broke car causing circulation problems....The guy was accused of attempt to murder on a policeman. Numerous such trivial cases exist in Mauritius where the police would object without ground to bail motions of people.

I also deplore the first article of press where the guy (journalist) refrains beautifully to put the name of the guy and of the casino whereas for other citizens they do not hesitate to put names sometimes without verifying their facts and information. I call this cheap journalism in Mauritius. By the way I also noted that anyone can be hired as journalist these days. What a shame.

Obama the Nobel Prize Winner for Peace, the US the so-called universal installer of democracy fell on the wrong side of history for once more and proved to be bad losers after a .................democratic vote took place to give Palestinians full membership to UNESCO.

Hats off for once the French who voted for and the UK who at least abstained. Every democratic historic event for the US when they are against is seen to be a tragedy for the world according to them. Only democracy that is forced through violence is seen to be democracy for these leaders and to say that Mr Obama is a nobel prize winner for peace!

Israel has explicitly referred to its closure policy as a form of "economic warfare", designed to exert pressure on Hamas through the civilian population. The closure of the Gaza Strip is unquestionably illegal. It is a form of collective punishment explicitly prohibited by customary international law and by Article 33 of the Fourth Geneva Convention. I am a businessman, a wholesaler. I supply retailers on a wholesale price and then they do the dirty job of going to sell piece by piece with a margin of profit. However with time I realise that the retailers to whom I am supplying the pieces are make huge profits and that they are getting richer and richer. So to maintain my superiority over those people who I am helping in a sense, I increase my price so that they reduce their profit margin as they cannot go on and on on increasing prices from their side.

If you have not understood, let me summarize......in short i need always keep them dependent on me and less powerful than me so that my business survives. I am happy that they prosper as long they do not overtake me.

Over the years i have noticed that the so-called fight for poverty alleviation is also taking this kind of direction.

Afterall poverty alleviation is a massive...........................................business!! Look at the number of NGOs, organisations, and foundations that have been set up to alleviate poverty. Many of these are using public funds directly or indirectly to alleviate poverty. All sorts of words and jargons are being utilised such as empowerment, refus de la pauvrete, etc etc

The fundamental question I would ask myself is how many of those people have left the poverty baseline, and how many of those people will be able to leave and get into lets say the lower middle class.

When we look at the way the organisations work, and the type of business they are into, one come to the logic that yes good work is being done, but there is a limit. And here I will go back to my anecdote of the first paragraph - it is not in the interest of the fight against poverty that there no longer exist poor people on earth, because then there will be no neeed to fight against it, and businesses will close and people will lose jobs. We want to preserve jobs and organisations so we need to keep having poor people.......

We should not fight against poverty, terrorism, crime, and so on.....its simply we should stop creating these.....

So, do we want to fight terrorism? poverty? crime? injustice? ..........a bon entendeur!

I noted the following statement

"The US ambassador to the UN, Susan Rice, said that the US was "outraged" and that opposition to the resolution was "a cheap ruse by those who would rather sell arms to the Syrian regime than stand with the Syrian people."

Again the hypocrisy of the so-called democracy advocated by the US. When they use their vetoes on every ills and evils of Israel especially when they defy the whole international community on issues where Israel is condemned, then we do not hear such arguments....when they were allies with Saddam Hussein furnishing him arms and military power to fight Iran and kill his own people then everything was right.

Today when China and Russia use their vetoes to ensure protection of sovereignty of a country, they find it a ''cheap ruse'' and show to us how much they love the ''Syrian'' people.

If only they loved the palestinian people so much, may be today there would have been peace in the Middle-east where Israeli people and palestinian people would be peaceful neighbours.

Wow...very recently these two persons were engaged in a terrible war of words and criticizing each other for every little things....Suddenly this guy is the best placed person for the COI secretariat... Well although nothing guarantees that he will actually accede to the post, but this move of the Government smells bad...

Is there an alliance in the making with the MMM? Is it a way to appease the MMM and prevent a rapprochement between MMM and MSM for the resumption of activities of the parliament?

Was there no one eligible for this position among our ladies? Time will tell more about this move.....

At last a member of the Government has taken a stand on this issue. While myself being someone who has no particular sympathy for the MSM or Shawkatally Soodhun, when I read the news yesterday that the Police objected to his provisional freedom, I instantly responded "Democracy is at stake in this country...."....Not because they have arrested Soodhun and that he will spend the night in a police cell, of course not! In any case we have to know that people like Soodhun, Maya or Kamajeet (if ever he is arrested one day) would have had recourse to Apollo given that they have the means to spend a night as a local medical tourist there and would never spend such a night in a cell.

But this goes much beyond that issue. This can be seen as a signal of threat to the ordinary citizen who will think twice before taking a stand against a Government official or MoP of the majority. And this is exactly where things become dangerous for the democracy that we are living into, already so fragile....

The position of Mr Mohamed at least can bring some comfort to the public opinion same as the position of the Prime Minister when Sithanen was arrested and the way he was treated...But then it can also be seen as a way to manage the public opinion whilst at the same time sending a message to the 'adversaires du jour' - 'I got you.....and this is the price to pay......' - Its not Sithanen or Soodhun who will tell the contrary.......

I am simply wondering how can this be a conspiracy? The guy has told these things from his mouth, has signed a communique the next day confessing about all he has said. He preferred the option to be a liar to the people who voted for him than to have to confront the law for potential criminal proceedings against him. It was again his choice. Where is the element of conspiracy here?

The guy was under 'threat' and he invented lies and confessed 'crimes'. If this is true again the situation is even worse, as politicians are confessing under pressure, then what do we expect from the common man? As a MoP he did not know he could have recourse to the police?

Recently another MoP came to talk nonsense in the media. Nita Deerpalsingh insulted the working population by saying that the Rs 330 to Rs 420 compensation was a measure to diminish the gap between the rich and the poor. One cannot even laugh at this as this is a complete lack of respect to the lambda citizen. We can agree that the government did a significant effort to alleviate the difficulties of those at the lower end but to come to tell the population that this will diminish the gap between rich and poor is obscenity....

President Obama says : 'Peace cannot be achieved through statements and resolutions...'

Reading the stand of Mr Obama on BBC website, I cannot refrain from writing down my thoughts about this statement.

Mr Obama's statement is according to me is very hypocritical by nature. When resolutions and statements at the UN were good to go to war in Iraq, Libya and bombing Afghanistan, then everything was OK and the UN was a very important body to maintain peace and security on Earth. Amazingly so far the same people who were so caring for Libyans being killed by Gaddafi are turning blind eye to what is happening in Syria and Yemen....

Suddenly today, for Mr Obama, peace cannot be achieved by resolutions at the UN. Which is which Mr Obama? Why do politicians in general take the World population for fools?

On top of all these, I wonder what value will the Nobel Prizes continue to have when we think that Mr Obama has been awarded the Nobel Prize for Peace?

By further stating that there is no shortcut to peace, Mr Obama again shows the nature of the hypocritical approach he is taking - after 11th September tragedy, all shortcuts to peace were acceptable, including human rights violation, indiscriminate bombing of 'enemies' and everything else. When peace do not concern directly Mr Obama, then there is no shortcut to peace - we can let millions and millions die and decades to pass until peace finally comes.

Let us put it like this - 'There is no shortcut to peace and peace cannot be achieved through UN resolutions when there is no oil' - ok Mr Obama?
